Energy costs are high, and there is an alternative energy source that can be exploited to reduce energy costs, and eventually pay for itself. The alternative is solar energy, and it could be more beneficial in some states and cities because they offer subsidies and tax incentives to upgrade the home to solar power. So, if the cost doesn’t deter, there are a few things to consider before making the switch that will affect the costs of installation.
Type of Solar Panel: There are three major types of solar panels, and as can be imagined the most effective are the most expensive while the least effective are least expensive. The most effective and expensive type of solar panel is a monocrystalline panel, which is one continuous sheet of silicone. The next step down is a polycrystalline panel, which consist of many individual PV cells held together by metal conductors. Finally, and the least effective are amorphous solar panels. They are made up of a thin layer of silicon placed on top of a metal or glass base.
Mounting Systems: There are three mounting systems available to fix the panels to the home, and just like the panels the least expensive is also the least effective. At the top of the list are tracking solar panel mounts that follow the arch of the sun and provide maximum efficiency. The next step down is adjustable mounts that can be tilted depending on the intensity of the sun or the season. The least expensive and efficient are fixed mounts that are completely stationary and cannot be adjusted for weather or season. The amount of energy generated is dependent on not only panel and mounting construction, but location as well.
Energy Cost Reduction: Although cost of solar panels and installation are expensive up front, it is good to remember that money will be saved in the long run with decreased energy bills.Talk to installation professionals and remember to research into state and city subsidies that may be available to incentivise solar panel installation.
In time, what is spent up front on Solar panels and installation will pay for itself and begin to generate savings on reduced monthly bill.
