Billionaire Doug Manchester's La Jolla Spread Available for Reduced $44M

Last summer, Foxhill, the Southern California estate of billionaire Doug Manchester, appeared on the open market. The property arrived in two configurations. One of them offered a new owner 6.24 acres of grounds, and had an asking price of $28 million; the second, which included 32 acres of grounds, was tagged at $49 million.

The property relisted this spring. Both configurations are still available, although prices have been dropped to $24.9 million and $44 million, respectively. Either way, the estate’s total interior living area measures in at 22,897 sq. ft., and there are ten bedrooms and at least twelve baths across the property.

The French-inspired two-story dates to 1980. It features a winged design, and has a large footprint. The exterior is red brick, with a fair degree of ivy coverage. The home’s main section features a long hipped roof with a series of seven dormer casements.

The interiors of the house lead off with a glitzy foyer with a glossy stone tile floor; the ceiling is dotted with crystal chandeliers. Like the home’s exterior, the interiors are preoccupied with the traditional, and certain tropes of upscale living are used to define the living style, including a formal dining room with panoramic wall covering and the living room’s parquet floors.

The kitchen is perhaps the most formal room in the house. Here, an ethereal treatment is enhanced by the custom millwork decorating the island—a very large installation—and ceiling, while multiple sets of French doors open to the backyard; a dayroom and a second, more relaxed dining room with an attendant wet bar are its companions.

Outside, a long list of diversions helps fill out the grounds near the home; on the list is a tennis court, a pool, a gym, sports courts, gardens, a greenhouse, and a variety of guest accommodations.
