Billionaire Rick Caruso's Malibu Beach House on the Market for $39M

The oceanfront residence of West Coast real estate developer Rick Caruso is back on the Los Angeles-area open market this year. Caruso initially listed the property about two years ago; the retreat makes its return tagged at $39 million. It contains five bedrooms and eight baths along its 7,264 sq. ft. of indoor living area.

Although the house’s façade is symmetrical and appears to break into wings, a high-dollar suburban feel predominates on the sandy side of the property, where three terrace decks overlook the water from the home’s two levels. French doors open to the Pacific, lending a breezy insouciance to the rusticity-tinged living room: plank ceiling, wide-plank floor, paneling, and fireplace.

The architectural concept of this house is a well-developed indoor/outdoor living style that begins with an entry sporting an additional stage: a vestibule that’s been artfully finished in white-painted brick and decorated with a wall fountain, a louvered casement, and a host of potted plants. A traditional white-and-black tile floor extends to the foyer, which features a curving staircase.

A courtyard-like deck is at the center of the design; it features a pool and a citrus tree or two amid the hardwood, as well as a number of sets of French doors opening to Juliet balconies overlooking it from the upper story. It’s a vastly appealing house from this perspective, as unpretentious as it is luxuriously secluded.
