Billionaire Larry Robbins Lists Luxuriant Manhattan Penthouse for $55M

The New York mansion-in-the-sky of hedge fund tycoon Larry Robbins appeared for sale on the open market late this winter. The Manhattan residence is priced at $55 million by Robbins, who has owned it for about two years, according to public records.

The penthouse is the crown jewel in The Charles, a 31-unit boutique condo building in the Upper East Side’s Lenox Hill neighborhood. The residence was completed in 2014.

Robbins’ unit diverges from the four-bedroom standard that predominates elsewhere in the building: it contains a whopping eight bedrooms and at least eight baths across 12,000 sq. ft. The living spaces are distributed across four levels; an elevator services them, although the freestanding staircase with solid balustrades and LED-lighted treads is the more interesting means of floor-to-floor transition. According to listing information, five years went into the design of the living style.

The exterior walls of the residence are predominantly glass — floor-to-ceiling solid or multiple panes with steel frames. Materials and fixtures are impressive; there’s a great deal of natural stone, white oak and Venetian plaster, and multi-pendant or contemporary chandeliers provide the home’s centerpiece lighting style.

Among individual spaces, highlights include the kitchen — a study in royal blue and gold glam — and the top level’s fireplace and spa terrace. The master suite occupies one half of the thirtieth floor, and includes a private office in its layout.
