Airline Tycoon, David Neeleman, Lists CT Manor for $8.3M
Airline magnate David Neeleman has just listed this Euro-style manor for $8.3M. The custom estate was built twelve years ago on 3.4 acres in New Canaan, Connecticut, and draws inspiration from the chateaus found along the French countryside.
The estate's many rooms are spread across four stories; all navigable by elevator. Of the 20 rooms, there are 8 bedrooms, an indoor basketball court, and a home theatre that comfortably seats 24.
Twelve-foot ceilings soar to accommodate the ten-foot mahogany doors found throughout, while wrought iron accents add rustic flair to the home's classic elegance.
That near-industrial feel is enforced by the materials found about the exterior. The solid stone and brick, as well as various details both inside and out, further enforce the style. The lights in the kitchen, for example, include two hanging fixtures of wrought iron, with electric faux candles that tap into the wealthy European style the couple was aiming for. To cap it off, they've included multiple fleur-de-lis ornaments atop the fence surrounding the property.
The house, designed with a family of nine in mind, comes packed with amenities, such as the media room, the in-ground pool, the bar, and the indoor basketball court downstairs. Outside, we find an in-ground pool, a fire pit, a grill area, multiple terraces, and enough entertaining space to host a wedding, which is exactly what the Neeleman daughters did-- thrice.
After 15 years, with all nine children grown up and moved out, Neeleman and his wife are moving on as well. David continues to build on his legacy as he prepares to launch his next airline, Breeze Airways, in early 2021. The nearly 14,000 square foot, Euro-style compound they're leaving behind is within walking distance of the town center, is less than an hour drive from Manhattan, and is currently on the market with a price tag of $8.3M.
