Curbed Boston Magazine reported that the current operator of Faneuil Hall Marketplace would like to design snow-fighting canopies along the sides of Quincy Market (picture above). The seamless glass canopies would extend outdoor-seating, provide cover from snow, and keep the semi-outdoor space warm.
The canopies would be installed with overhead heaters in the canopies and a special glaze on the glass melts snow without causing condensation to build up. Designed by Scandinavia Saint Gobain Glass, the glass would allow a place of retreat from the weather so Bostonians can get more out of their winter and spend time out of the house and out of the snow.
Fanuiel Hall is a historic building in Boston so getting approval for this process could be difficult and timely. On August 22nd operator Ashkenazy will begin the process at the city's Landmarks Commission.
