In 2014, 1.2 Million Borrowers Regained Equity

CoreLogic® conducted an analysis that showed that 1.2 million borrowers regained equity in 2014, bring the total number of mortgaged homes with equity at the end of 2014 to 89 percent.  However, from Q3 to Q4 of 2014, the negative equity value increased $7 billion to $348.8 billion.  Over the course of the year, negative equity from Q4 2013 to Q4 2014 decreased 13.4 percent from $403 billon.  The increase in negative equity from Q3 to Q4 in 2014 is a normal trend, as the negative equity in Q4 of every year usually increases.  The overall decrease in negative equity throughout the year is most telling and shows that negative equity will continue to decrease over the course of 2015.
