Dispose of  Your Independence Day Flags Properly

Following the Fourth of July weekend, many of us may be finding that our American flags have seen better days and need to be retired.

Ace Hardware stores are offering to properly dispose of American flags.

"When you're ready to retire a worn flag, your local Ace can help you dispose of it properly and honorably as well," a post on their website notes.

You can also bring American flags to your local American Legion for disposal. And if you'd like to properly dispose of a flag yourself, the American Legion offers this helpful guide.

Newton Ranked in Top Safest Towns in Mass

Newton was ranked No. 38 on a recent list of the 50 safest communities in Massachusetts.

The Safewise.com list, released last week, highlighted Newton's low crime rate and low unemployment. Safewise is a home security review resource.

Sudbury earned the top spot on the list.

"Several Neighborhood Area Councils facilitate communication between residents and the city," the report found. "Small business owners appreciate the economic opportunities offered by Newton's village centers and its close proximity to a number of major commercial centers. (Newton has) low unemployment, a highly educated and professional workforce and good schools.

Safewise.com reported the following statistics for Newton:

  • Violent crimes per 1,000 residents: .88

  • Property crimes per 1,000 residents: 10.31

Summer Etiquette Classes for Children

Think your child needs a boost with their social skills? Want them to be more confident in themselves?

The Etiquette Academy of New England will be offering youth etiquette classes at Chungdahm ReadWrite, 1254 Chestnut Street, Newton Upper Falls, MA from 7/7 to 7/12.

The 6-day long etiquette classes cover topics such as improving social and communication skills, projecting confidence, combating shyness, strengthening self-esteem & leadership skills, navigating friendships, resolving conflict, understanding social cues, basic manners & table manners, & more in a fun and interactive way.

The final class will be held at an upscale restaurant over a four-course meal.
