Median home prices in areas around Greater Boston are quickly reaching $500,000. While this list includes some traditionally more expensive neighborhoods, many suburbs that aren’t usually considered as such are also soaring in price.

The study looked at homes across the country that were listed from April 2014 to April 2016 to determine what percentage has “green” features, such as energy star ratings, LEED certification and solar panels. To be considered “green” the listing had to have at least one of these features.

Walkability was a particularly desirable quality in Boston real estate compared to the 13 other metro regions tracked in the study. On average, a one point walk score increase translated to a $3,250 price bump. That’s 700 dollars less than in Boston.
Rents in the Bean are third only to San Francisco with a median 1 BR rent of $3,460 and New York at $3,200.
