Massachusetts Gas Prices Down Five Cents This Week
Despite last month's concern that unrest in Iraq might affect the country's oil production, leading to an increase in gas prices locally and nationally, prices at the pump have been declining over the past month.
Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are down 5 cents this week, according to AAA Southern New England.
In its July 21 survey of prices in Massachusetts, AAA found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.62 per gallon, down five cents from last week. Prices locally are six cents lower than a month ago. The current price is five cents more than the national average for self serve unleaded of $3.57. A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was nine cents higher at $3.71.
The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 44 cents, from a low of $3.45 to a high of $3.89.
Middlesex County Sobriety Checkpoint This Weekend
The Massachusetts State Police will hold a Sobriety Checkpoint in Middlesex County.
The checkpoint will be held Saturday, July 26 into Sunday, July 27 on a public way within Middlesex County.
According to State Police, the purpose of the checkpoint is "to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public's awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways. It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."
Harvard Researchers Seeking Parents/Children for Speaking Study
Researchers at Harvard University are seeking youth ages 8-14 and their parents to participate in a study on youth public speaking and parent-child relationships. Together, parents and children can receive up to $80 for their participation.
