Newton and Brookline, MA fights breast cancer, one establishment at a time

tech <p><a href=""><img class= "aligncenter wp-image-1139 size-full" src= "" alt="boston bakes for breast cancer" width="345" height= "166" /></a></p> <p>From May 5-11, 2014, more than 350 restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, cafes, and chocolate and ice cream shops throughout Massachusetts will participate in <a href= "">Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer</a>. This is the 15th year Boston Bakes will raise money for breast cancer research and care. And Newton and Brookline are proud participants of this sweet charity! Proceeds will be shared by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc., a non-profit breast cancer organization dedicated to making a difference.</p> <p>Fifteen years ago, Carol Brownman Sneider founded and created this organization in honor of her mother, Eva Brownman, who lost her battle with breast cancer. At the beginning, the event raised more than $700,000 for breast cancer research and care at the Susan F. Smith Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber through the Eva Brownman Research Fund.</p> <p><a href=""><img class= "alignright wp-image-1142 size-full" src= "" alt= "boston bakes 2" width="300" height="237" /></a>In 2013, Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer had almost 300 participants in over 90 Massachusetts communities and raised over $78,000 thanks to the sale of 11,000 desserts!</p> <p>This year, the Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer is dedicated to the late Ella Mermelstein, whose daughter Suzanne, owns <a href= "">Mariposa Bakery</a> in Cambridge and has participated in this charity for many years.
